The Web CMS Implementation Lifecycle

Every CMS implementation--no matter the size--requires attention to certain fundamental implementation phases in order to ensure success. Depending on the size (see here for more on CMS size) and the particular requirements of each organization, some of these steps may be longer or shorter, simple or complex.

The following is not intended to be a thorough analysis of each phase but is intended to provide an introduction to the key components for any successful CMS implementation. Webworld is skilled and experienced with this CMS implementation lifecycle and is able to assist any organization with any part of this process.

Clink on the link for more details about that phase.

Evaluation and Procurement Phase
In this phase you chose the CMS solution. There are just a few basic approaches: custom develop a system, purchase out-of-the-box software, or a hybrid between the two.

Installation and Configuration Phase
In most cases your CMS software is going to require some level of customization and configuration. This is usually not included in the initial cost to purchase the software.

Customization Phase
Some level of customization is almost always required no matter what product you select.

Content Migration and Site Creation Phase
The migration of existing content is an often overlooked part of the process. If you have an existing web site you will need to take into account migrating that content into the CMS.

Training Phase
No matter how well designed the CMS tools, some training will be required for your non-technical content contributors.

Initial Deployment and Launch Phase
Once the CMS is installed and configured and you've loaded the content the next step is usually to quality check the content and launch the new site!

Maintenance Phase
When starting out in the evaluation stage, with so many things to think about on an immediate basis, it is very easy to overlook this maintenance phase.

CMS Implementation Total Cost
The actual cost of a CMS implementation is the sum of all the phases above.
